Meeting Call to Order: 12:01PM

Attendance: Francisco Adrian, Catalina Agustin, Jemerson Diaz, JoAnne Heinrich, Warren Hinrichs, Marc Hirst, Steve Nguyen, Andrea Siracusa, Tom Snead and Sue Stack.

Announcements:

· Francisco Adrian was inducted as a member of Top O’ The Rock. Congratulations again Francisco! We are happy to have you as part of our Club.


· Next week’s meeting will be at Landon Prep School again – but starting July 29th – August 26th we will be meeting at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.


· Our Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest will take place on August 26th. So far we have two contestants for the Humorous Speech and one for the evaluation contest. If you are interested in participating as a contestant, OR for any role –judge, timer, vote counter, etc.- please alert the Contest Master Jemerson Diaz (jemersondiaz@yahoo.com) as soon as possible.


· We are looking for an active member who would like assume the role of Secretary. If you are interested in retaining the role of Secretary please let me know and I will be happy to go over it with you.



MEETING:

Grammarian (Francisco Adrian): Word of the day was synergy (sĭn'ər-jē). The word means “interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.” Example sentence: There synergy of the members, proved that great results would be coming.


Speakers:

Mar Hirst – Marc presented his second speech of the Competent Communicators manual. Titled “ Pyramid of Egypt,” Marc spoke about the design and structure of the Egyptian pyramids.

Tom Snead- Tom presented and impromptu speech about “Healthcare Reform.” Tom provided great facts and insight into what healthcare reform will do, and is it the choice we seek.

Congratulations to Marc for being voted “Best Speaker.”

Evaluator for Marc’s Speech was JoAnne Heinrich
Evaluator for Tom’s Speech was Steve Nguyen


Congratulations to JoAnne for being voted “Best Evaluator.”


Table Topics:
Andrea Siracusa provided the table topic session which revolved around “choices.” Topics included: habits, to write a book or movie, choices of where to live, choice of a career. Jemerson, Warren, Sue and Francisco had the chance to participate.


Congratulations to Warren for being voted “Best Table Topic Speaker.”

Meeting Call to Order: 12:05PM

Attendance: Catalina Agustin, Jemerson Diaz, JoAnne Heinrich, Andrea Siracusa, Tom Snead and Sue Stack.

MEETING:

Grammarian (Catalina Agustin): Word of the day was daedal (deed-l). The word means “skillful; ingenious; complex.” Example sentence: There meeting yesterday was so daedal, it was hard to follow what was going on.

Speaker: Andrea Siracusa – Andrea presented her second project from the Public Relations manual. The project involved the speaker pretending to be on a talk show in which she was talking about an organization she was involved in. Sue Stack served as the radio show host.

Evaluations:
Master Evaluator was Andrea Siracusa.
Evaluator was Tom Snead.

Table Topics:
Jemerson Diaz provided the table topic session which revolved around celebrities and goals that some people where hoping to be able to achieve. Everyone had a chance to participate in the table topic session; and congratulations to Tom Snead who was voted as the best table topic speaker.

Meeting Minutes

Meeting Minutes (6.17.09)
Crowne Plaza Hotel

Thank you to Ms. Christine Payne for allowing us to use a room at the Crowne Plaza Hotel this week, and next week, for our meetings. We truly appreciate your support in making our meetings a success.


Meeting Call to Order: 12:08PM

Attendance: Catalina Agustin, Hung-Hen Chen, Jemerson Diaz, Marc Hirst, Jose Lepervanche, Andrea Siracusa, Tom Snead and Sue Stack.


Guest: In attendance was Francisco Adrian. This was Francisco’s second visit to our Club, and today he was voted in as a new member. Welcome Francisco, we know you will find Toastmasters very beneficial.


Also in attendance was Alison Last. Alison has lived in Jacksonville for about two years, and participated in Toastmasters in Michigan. She was looking to restart her involvement and sought out our Club via the internet. We are glad she could join us and hopefully she will able to attend future meetings.




MEETING:

Grammarian (Jemerson Diaz): Word of the day was genial (
jēn-‘yәl). The word means “to have a friendly or pleasant disposition or manner.” Example sentence: She seemed very genial, even though she was going through some rough time.


Speakers
Speaker: Jose Lepervanche – Jose presented an impromptu speech titled “Household Finances During Stormy Times.” In his speech, Jose provided us with tips on how to handle our finances – from making sure not to spend to impress, to remembering that saving money is key.


Evaluations
Master Evaluator was Sue Stack.
Evaluator was Andrea Siracusa.

Table Topics:
Marc Hirst provided the table topic session which revolved around some of the well known table topic cards and some of his own table topic questions. The session involved topics such as: new career; job you would not want; first job; happiest moment; donating money; and a favorite sitcom.


Everyone in attendance, including our guests, had a chance to participate; congratulations to Tom Snead who was voted as the best table topic speaker.

LOCATION CHANGE
Please remember that due to it being summer, and the library being unavailable for use, we have to meet in different locations. Below is a reminder of where we will be meeting for the last meeting in June and for all our meetings in July.

June 24th:

Crowne Plaza Hotel (1201 Riverplace Blvd.) Parking is located under the hotel. Drive up in front of the Crowne Plaza’s front doors and proceed under the hotel into the parking area. The room at this time has not been confirmed, but that information will be sent before the meeting.

June 17th – August 5th:

Julie Landon Prep School (1819 Thacker Ave.) – located just blocks from the San Marco Library

The summer months are here, which means a new location for
the Top O’ The Rock meetings. Due to school being out during
the summer, the San Marco Public Library is unavailable for use,
so we will be meeting at the following establishments on the
following dates from 12:00noon – 1:00pm:

JUNE 17th and 24th
Crowne Plaza Riverfront Jacksonville Hotel
1201 Riverplace Blvd.
Jacksonville, FL. 32207

· June 17th we will meet in the Suwanne Room on the second floor of the hotel.

Meeting Call to Order: 12:15PM

Attendance: Catalina Agustin, Marc Hirst, Steve Nguyen, Andrea Siracusa, Tom Snead, Sue Stack.


Guest: In attendance was Francisco Adrian. Francisco was a guest at this weeks meeting, he is looking to improve his speaking skills and feels that Top O’ The Rock is the place for that. With no hesitation, Francisco turned in his application to be a member – we are excited he has decided to join our organization.




MEETING:

Grammarian (Andrea Siracusa): Word of the day was elicit (
i-‘list-әt). The word means “to draw out by discussion.” Example sentence: The doctor was able to elicit the patient’s true feelings.”


Speakers
Speaker: Andrea Siracusa – Andrea presented a speech from the Advanced Communication Manual – Public Relations. She was working on the first project that dealt with the goodwill speech. She talked about Toastmasters and tips on speaking and combating nerves.


Evaluations
Master Evaluator was Catalina Agustin.
Evaluator was Tom Snead.

Table Topics:
Sue Stack provided the table topic session which involved chosen speakers to promote possible vacation spots. Sue provided the speaker with a location and they had to promote the location. Everyone had a chance to speak, and places discussed where: Daytona Beach; Dollywood; Golf Shores, Alabama; Disney World; Kentucky.


Congratulations to Andrea Siracusa who voted as the best table topic speaker.

Meeting Call to Order: 12:10PM

Attendance: Catalina Agustin, Jemerson Diaz, Jose Lepervanche, Steve Nguyen, Andrea Siracusa, Tom Snead, Sue Stack.

Guest: In attendance was Karen Jessee. Karen is a member of the City of Jacksonville Toastmasters Club. She came to our meeting as part of the Ambassador Program.


Club Business:

Officer Elections- 2009-2010 Officer Elections were held. Nomination form was provided to those in attendance, and any changes or nominations for positions was requested. With no changes requested, a motion to accept the nominees was given by Tom Snead, and second by Catalina Agustin. With unanimous approval, the nominees were accepted and approved in their respective offices.


Below are the new officers for 2009-2010, which will go in effect July 1, 2009:


President: Andrea Siracusa

V.P. of Education/Secretary: Sue Stack

V.P. of Membership: Jemerson Diaz

V.P. of Public Relations: Jose Lepervanche

Treasurer: Catalina Agustin

Sergeant-At-Arms: Tom Snead


In addition, Tom Snead and Steve Nguyen were appointed on the audit committee to review the books for the current year.


We also took the time to recognize some of our members who during the spring celebrated their membership anniversary with Top O’ The Rock. Those individuals were Steve Nguyen (5yrs) and Catalina Agustin (2yrs).


MEETING:

Grammarian (Steve Nguyen): Word of the day was neophyte (
nee-uh-fahyt). The word means “a new group or individual – a beginner OR a recent convert to a new belief.”


Speakers
Speaker : Jemerson Diaz – Jemerson presented his seventh speech from the Competent Communicator manual. The speech titled, “The Stars of Our Future,” dove into the development of our children. Do we think our child’s early life experiences determine who they will be? He provided great research and conclusions within his speech.


Evaluations
Master Evaluator was Jose Lepervanche.
Evaluator was Tom Snead.

Table Topics:
Andrea Siracusa provided the table topic session which revolved around “The Summer Months Ahead.” Everyone, expect the speaker and evealutor, had a chance to participate in table topics. Speakers talked about subjects, such as: special plans for the summer; special spots they always visit, or would like to visit, during the summer; tips on what you can do during the summer; and summer vacations that might not have gone as planned.


Congratulations to our guest Karen Jessee who voted as the best table topic speaker.
