Speakers:

Printella Bankhead completed speech no. 8 from the Basic Communication Manual.  Her speech title was “My Day at the Office”.   Printella’s speech speech incorporated lots of props (gadgets from her profession).   Projected time was 5 -7 min.  Actual time was 7:04.

Table Topics led by Steve:

Warren spoke about his greatest strength..being flexible.  Time was 2:05.

Jose spoke about the meaning of motherhood.  Time was 1:55.

Bob spoke about how to boost membership in a Toastmasters Club.  Time was 1:40.

Printella spoke about her least favorite profession…the executioner.  Time was 2:06.

Warren spoke about the meaning of friendship.  Time was 2:00.

Jose spoke about walking on a carpet of eggs.  Time was 1:40.

Bob spoke about his experience transporting relatives to and from the airport.  Time was 2:10.

Evaluation:

Bob served as Master Evaluator.  Bob evaluated Printella’s speech.  Bob’s evaluation time was 1:36.

Club Business

Warren was officially inducted as the new club President.  He discussed his vision for the club moving forward next six months.  Officer training in the Jacksonville will be August 3.

Minute June 19, 2013

Hello Toastmaster,

 

We had an exciting meeting today.  Bob gave us a great speech about turning lemons into lemonade. He used his own experience of breaking his wrist while trying out for football and how it lead him on a journey to better health. Jose also had a great speech about his recent trip to Columbia. He talked about the large number of police and security every were and how it made him grateful to be here in America. He also talked about the traffic and how there are no roadway rules (Yikes). We also had guess from Florida Blue Toastmasters, Michelle King and Monty. Who helped out with table topics and time keeping.

 

I spoke with the folks over at the Midtown Centre and we can meet in the 2nd floor conference room on our next meeting and either the 1st floor or 2nd floor going forward. We are currently scheduled to meet on July 03, 2013 and July 18, 2013.  We will also be meeting with Florida Blue at 4800 Deerwood Campus Pkwy on the second and third Monday of each month at 5:15 p.m.

Kevin Kochensparger did an impromptu speech today.  His speech title was “Responsible Pet Ownership”.  Kevin’s talk was about his very funny experience adopting some rats for pets.  Kevin also used body language very effectively during his speech.   Project time was 5 -7 min.  Actual time was 3:10.

Table Topics (Bob):

Jose, Kevin, Steve and Warren were asked about how to promote and fund a new business concept.

Jose spoke for 2:02.

Kevin spoke for 0:43.

Steve had a brain freeze and was under time.

Warren spoke for 1:15.

Second round:

Jose spoke about the meaning of “just do it”.  Time was 1:51. 

Kevin spoke about his favorite actor..Tom Hanks.  Time was 1:00.

Steve spoke about his favorite actor…Bruce Lee.  Time was 1:14.

Warren spoke about his passion for surfing.  Time was 1:15.

Evaluation:

Steve served as Master Evaluator.  Steve evaluated Kevin’s speech.  Steve’s evaluation time was 1:50.

Club Business

Bob is encouraging everyone to bring a guest to the next meeting.  We are proposing to move meetings back to Wednesday.

Kevin Kochensparger completed project no. 6 from the Basic Communication Manual.  His speech title was “Exercise and Good Mental Health”.  Kevin told us why it is imperative that we all get some exercise.  Project time was 5 -7 min.  Actual time was 5:30.

Warren Hinrichs completed his project no. 7 from the Basic Communication Manual (second go around).  His speech title was “What’s Driving the Markets”.  Warren further educated us on the financial world as his speech focused on the factors that are driving the market in a positive direction and what we can expect in the future.   Expected time was 5 - 7 min.  Actual time was 5:20.

Bob Warren completed project no. 4 from the Basic Communication Manual.  Bob’s speech was “The Amazing Side Effects of Sports”.  Bob delivered a very entertaining speech focusing on the benefits of competitive sports.  Expected time was 5 – 7 min.  Actual time was 6:18.

Table Topics (Led by Flor):

Fraser spoke about his ambidexterity.  Time was 1:30.

Sandy spoke about her frightening experience on the Mummy Ride.  Time was 2:03.

Jose spoke about his greatest teacher. Times 2:00.

Evaluation:

Steve served as Master Evaluator.  Printella evaluated Kevin’s speech.  Printella’s evaluation time was 2:00.  Jose evaluated Warren’s speech.  Jose’s evaluation time was 2:45.  Steve evaluated Bob’s speech.  Steve’s evaluation time was 1:46.

Kevin Kochensparger completed project no. 5 from the Basic Communication Manual.  His speech title was “Golf Swing Basics”.  Kevin made excellent use of body language as he broke down the fundamental components of a golf swing.  Project time was 5 -7 min.  Actual time was 5:20.

Printella Bankhead completed his project no. 7 from the Basic Communication Manual.  Her speech title was “Gun Laws”.  Printella gave us an overview of the gun laws and followed up with her own personal thoughts.   Expected time was 8 – 10 min.  Actual time was 7:10.

Table Topics (Led by Printella):

Steve spoke about what we need to do to improve as a club.  Time was 1:01.

Jose spoke about how a club should provide support to its members.  Time was 1:48.

Flor spoke about the not so happy times right in her home country.  Time was 1:12.

Printella spoke about what motivates her.  Time was 1:35.

Kevin spoke about what he can accomplish in 10 seconds.  Time was 1:02.

Warren spoke about his favorite color blue.  Time was 1:40.

Evaluation:

Jose served as Master Evaluator.  Warren evaluated Kevin’s speech.  Warren’s evaluation time was 2:07.  Jose evaluated Printella’s speech.  Jose’s evaluation time was 2:49.

Bob Warren

We had a very casual and informal meeting today.  Warren and Bob spoke about their experience at the International Speech and Table Topics Contest (Area) on March 16.  Both Bob and Warren got positive feedback from contest attendees.  Jose spoke about his past contest experiences and how he made it all the way to the District Contest.  Steve spoke about his experience in both the Humorous Speech and International Speech contests.  We encouraged Printella to think about entering the Humorous Speech Contest in the fall. 

Next meeting will be April 16.  Steve will be Toastmaster.  Scheduled speakers are Bob and Printella.
